Frequently Asked Questions

What is an appropriations request?

The Constitution states that "No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law." This means that the power of the purse must be exercised through the lawmaking process, allowing Congress to craft the terms of appropriations through legislation.

Every year, Congress is responsible for allocating discretionary funding for federal agencies, and grants and programs administered by the federal government. As your Representative in Congress, I have the opportunity to advocate on behalf of programs that are important to New York's 12th Congressional District.

Previously enacted appropriations bills can be found here.
